Sunflower (4-3 OT): Final vs. Garden City

Sunflower Games:

What a wild final as we give up 3 goals but win it in overtime. We knew what to expect. A very good Hispanic team who would have good skill and who would be physical.

Generally in the past we have done well on our set pieces against them. And today we did again. In fact it looked as if we had won it on a nice set piece with a few minutes to go as Heying lifted it in for a Hagenkord redirect and a Brown diving header. Handball.

BWhite gave Nick the tournament MVP award. (He had a fine 4 games). He also wanted to award honorable mention to Matthew Brown and Michael Velasco for playing consistently well throughout the tourney.

But we got lots of good play from many guys. And once again we played an important set of matches to aid us in getting ready for the season.

It is probably worth noting that we cashed 3 set plays and a T-ball.

Scoring:

Garden city- from punt, thorough defenders chip goal.
1: Feuerborn: Kutey throw in Hagenkord flick back post goal
Garden city- cross to back post engle slide past forward, forward touches it in
2- Hagenkord: Matt brown deadball cross to  header over goalie
Garden City- one man dribble through defense shot goal
3 Feuerborn - two man corner with Bartlett cross to back-post header goal
4:Hagenkord - Kutey bounces to the baseline for a perfect t-ball.

Sunflower (5-0) : Hays Forecast

Preseason Game 3: Hays in Topeka @ Sunflower Games HW 75 Fields

Despite getting off to a sluggish start, we did get ourselves back into the Sunflower Championship game. We only lead 1-0 at half, but we did generate a lot of nice opportunities that we just did not finish.

The first 20 minutes of our second half was our best soccer of the weekend. We also got back behind the ball much better in the second half.

1st Hagenkord. Luke serves a t-ball, Feuerborn dummies.
2nd Stoecklein - Kutey t-balled through moss' dummy.
3rd Stoecklein - Moss dispossesses wing defender before t-crossing.

4th Martin - Corner. D'Adamo bends it before it is cleared back out and then in again for him to put  back post.
5th Geist. T-ball Martin.

Sunflower (2-1): SM Northwest

Preseason: Game 2 vs. SM Northwest in Topeka @ HW 75 fields (2-1)

The second match was a very well played match. Opportunities were rare for both sides. Northwest had a very good run the final 15 of the first half. So we came into half time a little on our heels.

We played just an excellent second half. We generated a lot more, finding Tyler's feet up top. In fact his nice through ball to Luke created the PK.

Heying's corner to Brown was a textbook front post service and finish.

It's too bad that we gave up the PK with 15 seconds to go. We played well, but we just need to play a little smarter up 2-0.

Hagenkord. (Kutey taken down in the box)
Brown (Heying bends left corner).
Northwest: PK

Sunflower (7-0): SM West

Sunflower Games: Preseason @HW 75 fields,  Topeka vs. SM West (7-0)

We opened with a rather easy 7-0 win over the Vikings, leading 4-0 at half.

I don't recall Engle having to make a save. We did generate a lot of nice scoring opportunities as well.

Stoecklein:  Kutey plays a nice through ball.
D'Adamo. Gaspo lifts a long corner cross over the keeper to the back post.
Brown. Kutey t's it.
Feuerborn. Johnston overlaps to play a t-ball.
Moss. Hagenkord free kick comes off the keeper.
Brown. Heying bends the corner for the head-in.
Martin. Gaspo scoots it forward.
