Gateway Classic Semis vs. CBC (1-0)

Game 10: vs. CBC @CBC in the semi-finals of Gateway Classic 4 October

Well, we are now somehow 2-0 on CBC's home turf against them, but for this group who once stood 2-2-2 to come to St. Louis and to move to the Finals of the A-bracket in the best soccer tournament in the country—well, that is an accomplishment.

We looked a little legless early in this one, but we were able to move some fresh legs in and out of the lineup to stabilize the match. We were still 0-0 late in the first when we garnered 7 straight deadballs. And on that 7th, Velasco laid a ball right at Hagenkord's head for a tremendous drive to the back post.

We diamonded it out for the rest of the match to make that goal stand.  BWhite named Nick Hagenkord the BWhite Player of the Match, but he gave a big shoutout to Michael Velasco and Danny Geist.  And really our entire midfield rotation delivered in this one, and many of them with some old, old legs.

Obviously CBC has one of the most storied programs in the country and is coached by the winningest high school coach in the country: 800 plus. The boys really earned that ovation they received as they entered Patrick's for dinner.  We coaches are so proud of the growth they are making as a team this season.

We take on the highest rated team of the 58 that are here this weekend tomorrow, very early.  Jesuit will be a handful, but we relish the opportunity to play.

Congrats boys.
