Game 18: Region I Finals, 1 November at Harmon at 6:30
We had our full line-up back tonight as Luke Kutey finally got cleared from his concussed state. But the story of the match was good stand-them-up defense with good secondary coverage and deadballs. Lots of deadballs.
Harmon can throw out many talented-with-the-ball players. Our center midfield defense, especially during the first half, was very good. Lucas Bartlett had his best match of the year, and a lot of that came from his great defense at center midfield. BWhite names him as the BWhite Player of the Match with a hefty shoutout for Seth Castinado (goal, great defense, earned the PK, played the point on the diamond).
We cashed an early throw-in when Tyler just framed the goal perfectly and then, like he does, found twine. The man can score. We then added a corner to stretch it to two for half.
The biggest goal of the match is usually the one that gets the score to 3 before the opponent gets it back to 2-1, and that certainly was the case tonight. Lucas chipped a beautiful ball to the far post for a Hagenkord head-in early in the second half. We did not look back.
Velasco was back at full strength for the first time in a long time, and that return improved our play in the center of the back. We just have to applaud all of those guys for keeping the ball out of the net as Harmon can go to goal with the best of them.
We now will head to Seaman for the State Quarters. This game has been our exit point the last two years. We have talked about this match all year, and I am betting we will be ready for it.
